Labels are used in so many applications, so there are: shipping labels, product labels, storage labels, organization labels, pallet labels, name labels and the list goes on.
Because there are so many variations, each with its own peculiarities and specifications, it is often difficult to know exactly what type of labels to buy to suit your applications and needs.
It’s important to know that there are two ways labels can be organized: on a roll or on a roll. They have totally different characteristics and are used for different purposes. Below you can see in which situations each type can be used, so it’s easier for you to make your purchase.
Label rolls
Label rolls are used for inkjet or laser printers. They come in standard A4 size, but larger sizes are also available: 22 x 36 cm, 28 x 43 cm, 33 x 48 cm. They are extremely simple to use, the label sheet is loaded into the printer like normal paper and printing can be done.
These labels are usually intended for small and medium runs and are applied by hand.
They can be used:
- If you print the same content on each label: for example, you want to prepare return address labels.
- If you want to print color labels containing more complex graphics, for example, photos or logos. Document printers can print at up to 600 DPI, so you’ll enjoy quality print.
Paper rolls
Paper rolls are professional labels that can only be used with dedicated label printers: direct thermal printers, thermal transfer printers or ink printers. The labels are wound around a cardboard reel and the reel is mounted inside the printer.
There is a wide variety of label rolls: glossy labels, semi-gloss labels, colored labels, transparent labels or even eco thermal labels. They also differ according to the type of adhesive: labels with permanent adhesive, labels with semi-permanent adhesive, labels with easy peel adhesive or labels with special adhesive for frozen products.
Use them if:
- Print other content on each label: barcodes, shipping labels, event participant name tags, etc.
- You want to save money: Did you know that ink cartridges are among the most expensive items in the world? So if you want to make the most of your budget, you should opt for labels on a roll.
- You need to print fast: Roll labels can be printed very quickly, with some printers designed to print up to 70 labels/minute.
- Print large quantities: If you print more than 500 labels a month you have two options. Either outsource this service or buy a professional printer and use roll labels. The second option gives you control over the process and is more cost-effective in the long run.
- You need a variety of labels: Zinta’s portfolio includes roll labels in various sizes and shapes for every application. But if you can’t find exactly the labels you need, we can create them especially for you. All you have to do is leave us a message on orders@zinta.eu.
